A Time Beyond
A cool wind whipped by Prompto's face. Arms wrapped tightly around himself, it almost felt like a force outside of himself kept his feet moving. Bruises stained his skin - a reminder of his ride on the train. He didn't feel them, though. His numb body hardly crossed his mind. There only seemed to be room enough for Noct's scathing words.
Why was he still walking? If even his own friends didn't want him what point was there in existing? It hurt so much. Tears wanted to form in his eyes, but every time they did the bitter cold of the Glacian threatened to freeze them in place.
His steps slowed until the last scrap of strength he had was used up and he fell forward. So this was where he was going to die. In the middle of a foreign land, alone, with nothing to look at but endless white blankets of snow.
"If you could change the world at the cost of your own life, would you do it?"
He didn't even know where the words came from. His own mind, maybe? A last thought as his mind drifted away.
...
Had his mind not been dulled by the cold he would have been more shocked when he opened his eyes back up. He had no way of telling how long it had been. He didn't know how he could manage to rise from what should have been his final resting place, but he did. His aching fingers dug through the snow and he unsteadily climbed to his feet. Why keep going? Why? Maybe it was nothing more than the unshakable human instinct to survive.
A facility looming in the distance, he continued his endless trudge through the wastelands, with no way to tell what time it was or where it was. It felt like an eternity, especially as evening continued falling, but eventually and, perhaps miraculously, he planted a foot in front of the door.
He slammed a fist on the door once but it was solid. It wasn't a normal lock. Only a keypad. In a desperate bid to get inside, he tried the only thing he had - his wrist.
And in another miracle, it activated. With a code that did not exist yet, a simple program designed to accept a series of codes in preparation for the ones that would inevitably be created.
He didn't care. He stumbled in, falling to he knees for a moment before he managed to crawl back up to his feet and started searching for a warm place to hide in the First Magitek Facility.
